The Pair Count Closed on the Ninth. The Out Half Kept Thursday.

Shelter-seekers still walk to Larkmere on the old ratio. The shutdown killed a plate and left the pier lit.

Salt Pier walked Nim Callow to Larkmere on Thursday under the Pair Count, twenty-three nights after The Road Ahead filed the working closed. The band cut at the ring still read one sent, one back. The inbound place stayed empty. Callow's name went on the outbound sheet at 02:14, in the same column the pilot used on its last lawful night.

The method on the tested copy is short. A pony who arrives without a landing mark stands in the pier ring. The ring takes one. Larkmere receives that pony. A second place in the weave is supposed to bring one vetted pony the other way, chosen from Larkmere's list, and the copper In-Cup on the far quay warms when that pony steps through. Canterlot Institute signed that copy in the spring. The Equestrian Trade Council sewed it into the strait accord. The Road Ahead set the last authorized night as the ninth.

The close was written as its own working, with its own words, after the notice. The Institute ran it on a tin plate painted with a two-hoof ring. Pebble Marrin, night technician at Salt Pier, was in the room for the plate and on the stones for the pier. She chalked the plate, spoke the six closing words, and watched the chalk go dark. The plate is logged as an unmaking. She spoke the same six words on the pier ring, which is cut into the footing stones and measures forty-one hoof-widths. The stones stayed lit. Thursday's ring took Callow, stamped the band, and left the Larkmere cup cold.

"The plate died on the first try. I said the same words on the pier and the ring took her," Marrin said. "I can write what I watched. I can't file a notice over a ring that's still doing the job."

Fair Tally, deputy for The Road Ahead, said the Thursday walk sat outside the pilot. "The Pair Count ended on the ninth. Movements since then are residual processing, which the chamber has already accepted as housekeeping," Tally said.

The chamber packet for that acceptance runs four pages. Page three is the plate log. The pier measurement is absent. Tally's office sent the plate result as the close.

The residual has a count. Salt Pier's sheet shows fourteen outbound walks since the ninth. The inbound column beside those fourteen walks is blank. The In-Cup's temperature line, which the method requires the night technician to enter beside each walk, reads cold fourteen times. The stamp on Callow's band still cuts the pilot sentence, including the thread color. Marrin tied the green pilot thread through the band from a spool whose card says "final night, the ninth." The spool has given up fourteen lengths since the card was written. Harbor stores refilled it on the sixteenth from the pilot's own bin, because the bin is still labeled current.

Soren Keel, harbor tally at Larkmere, logged Callow under the accord's old ratio. "Twelve since the ninth, all on the one-for-one band. Our return list is locked, and the book they left us still names that ratio," Keel said.

Two of the fourteen bands are still with the courier. Keel's book takes the name when the strip arrives.

The Trade Council's strait copy updates when an unmaking is tested and then repeated at a second workshop. Celestia University is the named second workshop. The university's ring ledger shows the plate result received on the tenth and leaves the pier dimensions blank. A bench slot for the repeat sits empty. The accord copy Larkmere holds remains the spring copy, and the spring copy still authorizes the ratio.

Marrin entered Thursday in two lines, the way the sheet asks for any working, failed or finished. Line one: plate, six words, chalk dark, unmaking holds at that size. Line two: pier, six words, ring lit, pony sent, cup cold. She added the spool count in the margin because the margin is where the shift records a supply that outlived its card. The Road Ahead's notice is pinned above the desk. The notice dates the end to the ninth. The sheet under it has tonight's four names already ruled in the outbound column, ratio unchanged, second workshop still blank.
