Gale Clerk Takes the Wind. The 19 Knots Came Off a Leaflet.

Late shift pulled three orders before noon. The reserve flew the window the poster missed.

Directive 7 reached the Cloudsdale rail at 06:40, twenty-nine minutes after Director Cassian Vellum signed it and twenty-six minutes after the Wonderbolt press office called the signing done. The order assigns the Gale Clerk, a pattern loom on the second stack of the Pattern Works, the wind slips, the storm windows, and the exhibition card through 1 March. The first slip in the hopper was Wind Order 441.

Order 441 called for 19 knots through Tunnel C from 14:00 to 14:40, hail marked ceremonial. Tunnel C has carried a brick course since 11 March. The Gale Report has listed the vent closed on every sheet since the frost crew finished the course. The loom listed it open.

Rook Tansey, crew chief on the late shift, set the slip beside the morning Gale Report and the brick log. "Thursday's squall is on a vent we filled in March," he said. "I can move a cloud. The brick stays." He pulled 441 at 07:02. The loom issued 441-B at 07:06. The knots, the window, and the hail mark were the same. The file number had gained a letter.

Press Clerk Nacre Wisp brought a one-line sheet to the rail. It said the Gale Clerk had taken the sky in one pass. At 07:22 Director Vellum said from the Pattern Works balcony that the loom reads weather ahead of habit. Asked which page set the 19 knots, he named page 3, then page 30. Page 3 is the signature block. Page 30 is a pulley drawing with a coffee ring. He went inside at 07:31. No corrected slip came down.

Silt Rowan was the fifth name on the crew board, in pencil under four poster fliers. She launched at 13:06 with the pulled orders on her chest strap. The east reach took 8 knots. The grandstand stayed dry. "The loom had the old card in it," Rowan said. "Same type, same knots, spring meet. I flew what the east reach can hold." Her launch-to-mark time was 11 minutes.

At 09:48 Tansey's clerk opened a side hopper to clear a jam and pulled the training sheaf. Inside were the 2025 Wonderbolt exhibition poster, a Windfall Margin leaflet, and nine old Gale Report forms. The leaflet prints a sample tailwind of 19 knots through an open Tunnel C. Order 441 used that figure and that vent. The poster records a derby heat from 3 April. The loom entered it as Thursday's second race, first place already typed for a flier on clinic duty since a tendon tear on 12 May. Second place carried a number retired in winter. The reserve line was blank.

The pass that ran, after the late shift scratched the loom card, was one circuit of the short rail in 2:13.4. Wind on the rail was the 8 knots Rowan had written on the back of 441. The press office still issued the loom card at the gate. Eleven spectators marked it. The gate count was 40. Wisp called the eleven a sign of public confidence. The judge's sheet carried Rowan's time.

Canterlot Institute's note arrived at 11:20. Rated crew, the note says, means a pony with a current ticket, and the weather charter still requires one. The Canterlot Council's storm calendar remains posted through the winter run. Arcane Express Sparks Rail declined the hail window and sent the 12:05 on the standing timing. Union Resistance nailed the shift log by the keg at 12:30: three orders pulled before noon, each with the loom's mark, two reissued before the ink dried.

Windfall Margin holds the service contract, filed with the Council on 2 October, at 18.7 million bits through 1 March. Page 14 lets the shop keep the training sheaf. Vellum sits on the shop's advisory rail. His briefing sheet skips the seat. At 15:10 the press office called the seat a familiarity and ended the questions. The directive runs 41 pages. His initials are on page 1. Pages 12 through 40 still carry the leaflet's footer and a price per knot.

The public Gale Report carried the loom text until 17:05, then took the east-reach figures in Tansey's hoof. Wisp called the gap a pause while excellence settles. The log calls it a miss of 9 minutes. The squall arrived at 18:22 on the east reach: 8 knots, no hail, 16 minutes. The figures match the note on the back of 441. At 17:11 the loom had issued 441-C for Tunnel C at 19 knots, with the hail restored.

At the 19:00 change a clerk lifted the bunting the press office had folded over the Gale Clerk's side plate. Lines ingested from the poster and the leaflet stood at 640. Rated hours in cloud stood at 0.
